The HB Story
Growing up in the heyday of the 80's BMX / Freestyle scene, I didn't just love riding my bike, I loved the entire BMX world. The magazines, the products, and just the quality of artists that were part of BMX - I loved all of it.
When I was 19 I dropped out of college and started my own bike company called Homestead Bicycles.
I had no plan (shocking) but I had a dream. A dream I could create a really cool bike that was unique and fast and light.
I wrote a letter to Bob Haro to see about some advice, and on Bob's suggestion I asked Cyclecraft to weld my frames. I designed the frame with a steeper head tube angle, low and fast, chose the paint colors with Brian Foster, then flew back to California. I registered my business, found a local rider in NorCal to sponsor, and I was on my way.
For four years I drove to ABA races, sold t-shirts, and handed out stickers trying to build my brand.
50 Bikes ordered, only 30 received*
In 1995 I folded Homestead and never looked back.
Until now.
*What happened to the missing bikes? Watch the story in the documentary '30 Bikes,' - it's a good one.
